The Drums and Bugles of the Royal Marines

Associated Web Link: Royal Marines Bands Videos

Transcript Of Narration
The Bugler s Branch of the Royal Marines Band can trace its history back to 28th October 1664. Originally the Drummers were needed to transmit signals during battles. By 1855 the bugle had replaced the drum as a means of signalling on the battlefield. During the latter part of the nineteenth century buglers were massed into several Corps of Drums.

The drums are always placed at the front on the band when on parade and this began in 1902 when Lt Miller placed thirty buglers in front of the massed bands at the Coronation Review. This has now become synonymous with the Royal Marines Band ceremonial presentations.
